THE SARAJEVO TAPES
Post Production
February 28, 2022. A crew of young filmmakers is in Sarajevo to shoot a documentary on the after-effects of the Siege of Sarajevo, 30 years later. They've been hired by a European Television network and this is easily their biggest assignment yet.
On their final day in the Bosnian capital, they interview an old woman who lost husband and son during the Balkan war.
She is sweet, gentle and mysterious. She keeps her refrigerator closed with black tape. Says that sometimes aliens come at night, to steal her food. She never saw them, but she can hear them moving around the kitchen and living room.
The filmmakers decide to return to the old lady’s place that very same night and film the building from the exterior.
A few minutes before midnight, the three gather below the old lady’s balcony. It’s freezing. After an hour of absolutely nothing happening they decide to leave, just when a light comes on inside the apartment.
A silhouette moves behind the curtains. It’s definitely the old lady. She seems to be looking outside.
Suddenly another shape appears behind her. The three argue that it could be a relative, or perhaps a nurse? A friend?
The three keep filming. They stop to look at the footage.
Something is not right.
They decide to go up and see for themselves. They step into the apartment. It's empy. There’s a strange smell in the air.
They move, opening doors and calling out the old lady's name.
There’s one last door at the end of the corridor.
They open it.
By doing so, their lives will change, forever.
